Your
company may already be using more than one site and uses a LAN

a WAN (wide area network). A WAN is the term used for two or more
local area networks connected to each other. By using a wide are
network (WAN) you convert you LAN's into one BIG LAN. This means
that every computer has unrestricted or restricted access as required
to every other computer. Using a WAN you can dispose of duplication
with no need of multiple mail servers, Internet gateways, file
servers and application services. This means your entire site
can be centralised and all your IT operations including staff

LAN's connect together as and when required using Dial-up Digital
circuits (GEN IPWAN) services This becomes a Transient WAN. Transient
WANS are often applied to connect smaller sites into an established
WAN or even small home networks for key employees, giving them
full access to corporate LAN's from home.
EMAIL
& DATA WAREHOUSING
It
makes sense to make full of use of your WAN and ensure your investment
is fully maximised. An excellent feature application to associate
or use with your WAN is corporate email. Using single or distributed
mail servers, you can implement a company wide email service that
can be managed by ourselves or in-house.
CORPORATE
DATA RESILIENCE
A
distinct advantage to having a WAN is that during the evening
/ night time, traffic demands on the interconnections are relatively
small. Many companies take advantage of this by using it to back
up their databases. By utilising the system to make backup copies
of data at another site you can ensure a boot ready backup, off-site
and fully automated.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS
INTERCONNECTIVITY
Using
your WAN for data is immensely beneficial, but that is only the

calls between sites utilising their WAN to transfer the calls
over IP or using the WAN ISDN30 over DPNSS, and use clustered
ISDN2 for data. Both solutions have advantages and depend primarily
on the use of the service. Smart telephone systems can not only
give you free calls between sites but can also integrate switch
services. Providing centralised voicemail and directory services
including push/pull diversion, Inter office FAX and document transfers
etc.
